Beijing Hospitality Institute
Beijing Hospitality Institute (BHI) was established in May 2008 after being approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE), China. In the same year, BHI enrolled more than 180 students nationwide in China. The Institute is funded by Beijing Tourism Group, Beijing Longxi Hotspring Resort, R&F Beijing Properties Co Ltd and Betung Investment Ltd. Academically, BHI is supported by Beijing International Studies University. BHI offers a four-year Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality Management programme of study, with the academic certification of Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL). EHL designed the academic curriculum of BHI, which was approved by MOE, China. In addition EHL provides BHI with consulting support in the design of the BHI campus, training and development of the management and faculty of BHI, audit of teaching materials and classes.
Hospitality management is one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, and especially in China. To respond to this need, the programme in BHI follows the educational philosophy of EHL—a balance of the science and the art of learning: meaning, theoretical study complemented by practical, hands-on work; leadership and management courses complemented by vocational skills of the hospitality trade; and cultural and emotional development in the areas of teamwork, adaptability and diversity.
BHI is located in the Daxing district, south of Beijing. The Jingkai Expressway allows for a smooth motoring from downtown Beijing to a peaceful environment. The campus has been designed considering the needs of the curriculum, living conditions of residential students, ergonomic work spaces for management, staff, faculty and students, and security. There is also a four-star hotel opened to the public, where students put to practice what they learn.
In the coming academic year, about 800 students will matriculate in BHI. At full capacity, BHI has been designed for 4,000 students on campus. BHI’s vision is to be a leading hospitality institute in China, and in Asia.
