Beijing Hospitality Institute (BHI) was established in May 2008 after being approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE), China. Academically, BHI is supported by Beijing International Studies University. BHI offers a four-year Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality Management programme of study, with the academic certification of Ecole hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL). EHL designed the academic curriculum of BHI, which was approved by MOE, China.

In addition EHL provides BHI with consulting support in the design of the BHI campus, training and development of the management and faculty of BHI, audit of teaching materials and classes. The programme in BHI follows the educational philosophy of EHL—a balance of the science and the art of learning: meaning, theoretical study complemented by practical, hands-on work; leadership and management courses complemented by vocational skills of the hospitality trade; and cultural and emotional development in the areas of teamwork, adaptability and diversity.

Why BHI was established?
Along with the fast development of hotel businesses in China, the shortage of human resource supply, especially the shortage of high level managers, is turning into an even more serious issue. China’s hotel industry is still lacking a generation of professional managers who have rich theoretical and practical knowledge about rules and regulations of the global hotel industry. Looking into the hotel management practice, the hotel industry needs pragmatic talents who have a solid knowledge foundation with rich practical experience and enthusiasm.
What is the agenda of BHI?
Questions:What should the school be like? What do we teach? And what should our graduates look like?
I feel that the EHL's educational ideas and training mode fit the needs of China's hotel industry, because what is needed in China is industrial demand-oriented higher education. Hence, together with me, entrepreneurs Mr. Gan Lianfang and Mr. Zhang Li, both enthusiastic about education, decided to invest in an internationalized and application-oriented EHL-style hospitlity management intsitute in 2005.
The EHL consulting team, led by Mr Yateendra Sinh, has given us much assistance by providing professional consultation in areas ranging from education ideas to campus layout; from curriculum design to management and teacher training. Thanks to the support from the Ministry of Education and the Beijing Municipal Education Commission, the BHI started to operate and welcome its first batch of students in 2008.
We have initially determined BHI's principle educational ideas of "internationalization and application-oriented". Our aim is to "cultivate high level hotel managers", and our school motto is "Learning for Application".
We are aiming at building a distinctive, high standard hospitality management institute that is loved by students, and their parents as well as the industry.We will continue our efforts to build a better BHI in the future.
