BHI International Exchange |Associate Vice-Chancellor (International Relations) of Deakin University, Professor Shen Wei, Visits BHI

On September 19th, Professor Shen Wei, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Associate Dean of International Relations at Deakin University in Australia, visited the Beijing Hospitality Institute (BHI). Dr. Gao Songtao, Dean of BHI, along with Xu Longyang, Director of the Teaching Affairs Department, Sun Qiao, Director of the Admissions Affairs Department, Yu Weimin, Deputy Director of the Teaching Affairs Department, Ma Xingdong, Director of the International Education Office, and Hu Xiuying, Director of the International Exchange Center, welcomed the guest. Professor Shen Wei introduced Deakin University to the leadership of BHI and expressed his anticipation for deep and close cooperation with BHI. Deakin University, as an outstanding institution in Australia, holds a global reputation in the field of higher education. Since its establishment, Deakin University has been committed to providing excellent education. The university boasts a first-class team of faculty members, excels in innovative research projects, and holds both AACSB and EQUIS accreditations. Deakin University also offers a wide range of scholarships and financial assistance programs for international students. Additionally, the Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI) provides strong English education resources to assist international students in achieving academic success in Australia.

Gao Songtao expressed that BHI places great importance on the development of international education and is committed to pursuing a path of internationalization in response to the diverse demands of people in the era of higher education. BHI aims to establish a high-end international cooperation platform, innovate the model of international talent development, build an international faculty team, and facilitate cross-border corporate internships. This will provide students with a profound international educational experience, ultimately nurturing future leaders with a global perspective and cross-cultural communication skills.

During the meeting, the leaders from both sides engaged in in-depth discussions on various academic cooperation areas, including Sino-foreign joint 2+2 dual degrees, international study tours, faculty exchange, and student overseas internships at Deakin University. The collaboration extended to the details and practical aspects, with a shared commitment to nurturing internationally competitive talents with a global perspective and innovative capabilities.

On this occasion, BHI has appointed Professor Shen Wei as a visiting professor. Professor Shen Wei is the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University and holds the Jean Monnet Chair in EU-China relations, awarded by the European Union. Prior to joining Deakin University, he served as the Director of the Confucius Institute at Lancaster University in the UK and a professor at the Lancaster University Management School. He also held the position of Vice President responsible for China and Asia Affairs at ESSCA, a prestigious business school in France. This appointment signifies that the two institutions are embarking on deep collaboration and will provide international academic exchange and cooperation opportunities for BHI.

After the meeting, Yu Weimin and Sun Qiao accompanied the guests on a tour of the practical teaching facilities at BHI, including the teaching hotels, Western and Chinese restaurants, and the Rui Kang Health Center. They introduced the unique talent development model of BHI to the visitors. Professor Shen Wei highly praised the practical teaching facilities at BHI and noted the similarity in talent development models between BHI and Deakin University. Both institutions place strong emphasis on nurturing students' practical skills, aligning well with shared educational philosophies.

The visit by Deakin University from Australia is not only an important milestone in the friendly exchange between the two universities but also deepens mutual understanding, laying the foundation for more in-depth cooperation in the future. Gao Songtao hopes that Shen Wei will bring wonderful lectures and interactions to the teachers and students of BHI and provide a broader platform for international development for the students.
